Pañcanadī, Pañcamahānadī

In several places in the texts five rivers are mentioned as the five great rivers (mahānadī) of India, and they are used in various similes and metaphors. These rivers are:
- Gaṅgā,
- Yamunā,
- Aciravatī,
- Sarabhū, and
- Mahī .
