A compendium of Vinaya rules, chiefly in verse. According to tradition, it was compiled about two hundred years after the Buddha’s death (J.P.T.S. 1882, p.87), but the language shows it to be much later.
The work is generally ascribed to a monk named Mahāsāmi (See P.L.C.76). There exists a Subcommentary (ṭīkā) on it.
