A district in Malaya (in Sri Lanka) often sought as a place of refuge — e.g., by Kassapa, son of Upatissa III. (Cv.xli.19); Jeṭṭhatissa, son of Asiggāhaka Saṅghatissa (Cv.xliv.28) and Potthakuṭṭha (Cv.xlvii.58).
Vijayabāhu I gave Merukaṇḍara as dowry to his daughter, Yasodharā, who married Vīravaṇṇa (Cv.lix.27).
