Marutta-pokkharaṇī

A reservoir in Anurādhapura, north of the royal palace, in the time of Devānampiyatissa.

When Mahinda scattered flowers on it the earth trembled, and Mahinda prophesied that it would become the Jantāghara-pokkharaṇī situated to the east of the gateway of the Kālapāsāna-pariveṇa.

It had disappeared by the time the Mahāvaṃsa Ṭīkā was written (MT.344 f).

The boundary (sīmā) of the Mahāvihāra passed through the reservoir. Mbv.135, 136.
