Dīghajānu
A Koliyan, inhabitant of Kakkarapatta. There he visited the Buddha and asked for a teaching which would bring happiness both in this world and the next. The Buddha explained to him the four conditions of temporal welfare — accomplishment in industry (uṭṭhāna-sampadā), in watchfulness (ārakkha-sampadā), in good friendship (kalyānamittatā) and in finance (samajīvitā).
He then explained the four conditions of spiritual welfare — accomplishment in confidence (saddhā-sampadā), in morality (sīla-sampadā), in liberality (cāga-sampadā), and in wisdom (pañña-sampadā). In this discourse the Buddha addresses him as Byagghapajja (tiger-foot) (A.iv.281 ff). The Commentary (AA.ii.778) says this was a generic name (paveṇi-nāma), common to all Koliyā.
