Bāhiraphassanānatta Sutta
1. Bāhiraphassanānatta Sutta.– At Sāvatthi. Monks, it is in dependence on the diversity of elements (dhātu) that a diversity of perceptions arises. Dependent on a diversity of perceptions, there arises a diversity of thoughts (saṅkappa) … contacts … feelings … desires (chanda) … fevers (pariḷāha) … quests (pariyesana) … dependent on a diversity of quests, there arises a diversity of gains (lābha).
What, monks, is the diversity of elements? The element of sights … sounds … odours … flavours … touches … ideas. S.ii.146.
2. Dutiya Bāhiraphassanānatta Sutta.– Similar to the above, but … Dependent on a the diversity of elements … a diversity of perceptions does not arise … S.ii.147.
