Cinta Sutta

Cinta Sutta.– Monks, do not reflect on evil, unwholesome thoughts such as, “The world is eternal, the world is not eternal; the world is finite, the world is infinite; the soul and body are the same; the soul is one thing, the body is another; the Tathāgata exists after death, the Tathāgata does not exist after death, the Tathāgata both exists and does not exist after death, the Tathāgata neither exists nor does not exist after death.” Why? Because such thoughts are not beneficial, are not connected with the holy life, they do not lead to revulsion, dispassion, cessation, enlightenment, and nibbāna.

When you reflect, monks, you should reflect, “This is suffering, this is the cause of suffering, this is the cessation of suffering, this is the path leading to the cessation of suffering.” Why? Because such thoughts are beneficial, they are connected with the holy life, they lead to revulsion, dispassion, cessation, enlightenment, and nibbāna. S.v.418.
